Job Summary
The Accounting Clerk supports the day-to-day financial operations of the organization by assisting with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing general accounting support. This role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors or customers.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP):
- Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents
- Prepare and process payments (checks, ACH, wire transfers)
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain organized and up-to-date AP files and documentation
Accounts Receivable (AR):
- Generate and distribute customer invoices
- Apply customer payments and post transactions to the general ledger
- Monitor accounts for past-due balances and assist with collection efforts
- Respond to customer billing inquiries and resolve payment issues
- Maintain accurate AR records and supporting documentation
General Accounting Duties:
- Assist with account reconciliations and month-end close activities
- Enter and verify financial data in accounting systems
- Support audits by providing documentation and reports as needed
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information
- Perform other accounting or administrative duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in accounting or finance preferred
- 1-3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, AP, or AR experience preferred
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and procedures
Skills and Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., ERP systems)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Working Conditions
- Office-based or hybrid work environment
- Standard business hours, with occasional overtime during peak accounting periods
